With news of the Queen of Soul passing yesterday morning, all universes were put on hold, including the FPL Universe. Aretha Franklin's unique ability to powerfully belt out a tune from any genre of music truly made her a once in a century talent that has inspired millions of people to sing, dance and enjoy music in its purest form across the globe. This week's FPL captains rankings will be a musical tribute to her:

Both the start to the Prem and the first game week of the FPL season are an occasion perfectly constructed for both endless optimism and gut wrenching nerves. The constant tinkering prior to the season’s beginning seems tireless and never-ending, and does not satisfy nor provide resounding confidence in predicting what has yet to come in the upcoming 38 weeks. Please, blog, may I have some more?

Don't look now, but time's almost up for you to keep tinkering away at your FPL team. Roster's lock on Friday at 7pm (BST), 2PM (ET) and 11AM (PT), so don't get caught with any players you aren't entirely certain will be back GW1 - especially those high-priced assets. There is no point having an expensive, double figure player riding the bench when you are literally starting on a level playing field with everyone else. While there will certainly be players you long to have on your squad from day one, if they are not yet training with the team due to World Cup action, just wait to wildcard them in after a few weeks of play and rotations/starting XIs are mostly settled.
It’s your sometimes weekly, mostly when I’m not lazy, update for Gameweek 27. We have FA matches over the next few days, so PLEAAAASE HOLD ON TO YOUR TRANSFERS! This is not the time of year to be rushing around and trying to save team value. Get information on players and blank schedules, react and make smart decisions with the players you decide to unload and who you replace them with. Please feel free to leave questions, comments and criticisms below.
Welcome to the world of mid-February Fantasy Premier League decisionmaking. Should it be any different than it's been all year? Well, that depends. If you have been dragging ass and dropping red arrow after red arrow without any hope in sight, well than yeah, it's time to be bold. If you are absoulely demolishing your mini-league(s), then stay the course and bring in quality transfers and captain the smartest choice possible each and every week. At the end of the day, your weekly captaincy choice does play a huge difference in your weekly status, but nailing the pick each and every week isn't as big of a deal as picking the right players and having them serve up consistent point totals over the length of the season. Without any more rambling, I've decided that this week to provide you a few choices at each "category" for captaincy. The thinking behind this is that I don't know who the hell you have on your damned squad, so it means jack shit to you if my recommendation is nowhere to be found near your actual squad.
This is shaping up to be a week with no clear captain favorite, but certainly necessary to consider all of your options (however few they may actually be). Spurs vs United removes your HaroldLukaku and Pogba/Son/Eriksen/Sanchez/Martial or any of their teammates from the logical reality that ManU will probably try to park a bus to beat Spurs. Arsenal and Chelsea seem like too much a mess to bother to put the captain band on their boys, although with them playing Swansea and Bournemouth respectively, it could end up being an Ozil or Alonso that steals the day. The players below are the most clear-cut choices for captaincy, but we can all agree that both my pedigree and decision-making for this season is average at best. So here's to celebrating what little I know and what even less remains of my gut feel...cheers!
We’re once again giving you our loves and hates for each week in a segment called “Start ‘Em and Sit ‘Em”.  You should know the drill, but if you don’t, we pick one option from each position.  Pretty cut and dry, and quite simply… basic.  It is more based on my feelings and gut approach for the week’s upcoming and changes from week-to-week.  I look at match-ups and form to formulate my craziness.  It’s like musical chairs, without all the screaming kids and regretful feeling of loss. So sit back, relax, and have a look at who we would start and sit based on match-ups and value. It’s Fantasy Premier League Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em, Week 14, and we have one hell of a first fixture, a legendary midweek derby!
