It’s your sometimes weekly, mostly when I’m not lazy, update for Gameweek 29. If you haven’t already prepared for GW31’s upcoming slate of 4 games, well then at least spend your next two free transfers towards getting a player or two that might be useful to you from GW31 until you wildcard. If you’ve already wild carded, then it’s best you just ignore bringing in “non-blanking” players this week or the next, as you need to keep your team strong for the Double Game Weeks coming up shortly after. The two scheduled DGWs are where huge point hauls and mini-league swings can happen, as opposed to a short-slated GW31. Don’t despair if you’ve fallen behind, as the most exciting part of the FPL season is nearly upon us!

  • GW 29 had 9 different forwards bag a goal and 4 get an assist, without a single forward getting any sort of double return. Great week for people that had some cheap 3rd FWD options in their starting lineups. Let’s hope some of the noname non-blankers score as well during GW 31!
  • Buy Firmino. Schedule is great, team is flying, he’s not going to be replaced anytime soon. Every active team will own him by GW 31, so go get yourself some Bobby Digital!

  • Son’s brace puts him on 139 points for the season, only 9 points behind Christian Eriksen and 39 points behind Harry Kane for the most FPL points on Spurs. Eriksen has played 2408 minutes, Kane has 2401 minutes, and Son has 1769 minutes. I hope to see him and Ki Sung-yueng crush Mexico and Sweden’s dreams of making it out of the group stage during the World Cup this summer.
  • Salah’s goal places him in a tie with Harry Kane for the race for the 2018 golden boot! 24 goals apiece on the season! Even if both players are owned relatively everywhere in FPL, a golden boot race will make point totals for the end of the season seem unreal.
  • Returns in 3 straight matches for Michail Antonio, I could see justifying a transfer for him during your wild card, despite having pretty tough fixtures down the stretch. Antonio is only owned in .2% of leagues, but seems to be recapturing his form from season’s past now that injury is behind him.
  • Pogba had his first prem returns since GW 22/23 when he had 2 assists in both matches. Meanwhile, Sanchez had his second return in 5 matches under Mourinho. Neither should be on your team.
  • Will Hughes played his first premier league minutes since GW 15! AAAAAAAND our favorite lil’ albino nabbed an assist in just 24 minutes as a sub! Away to Arsenal this weekend could be a goal fest, and while Watford’s GW 31 clash versus Liverpool at Anfield shouldn’t inspire confidence for any side nor FPL managers, at £4.6m, you could do a lot worse for your 5th MF while avoiding a blank. Lastly, the Hornets GW 32-25 fixtures are as good as it gets: Bournemouth (H), Burnley (H), Huddersfield (A), Crystal Palace (H).

  • Andrew Robertson is flagged yellow with a leg knock, but I’m starting him regardless vs Man United because my defense is kind of a mess. Budget Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold scored 9 points last week priced at just £4.2m. If you don’t have 3 Liverpool defenders already, I’d bring in TAA.
  • Stoke and Watford returned cleans last weekend! Watford are a decent shout from GW 32-35, but don’t expect it to happen again any time soon with the Potters; Stoke’s fixtures: Man City (H), Everton (H), Arsenal (A), Spurs (H), West Ham (A), Burnley (H), Liverpool (A); OUCH!

  • I’m currently in the camp of not having a keeper for GW31. If I were to pick a GK for that week and that week only, it’d be Pickford.
  • Beyond the blank week, my keeper choice for the rest of the season would be Kasper Schmeichel because Leicester’s schedule til GW38 is a breeeeze.
