It’s your sometimes weekly, mostly when I’m not too exhausted from work update for Gameweek 23. Feel free to leave questions, comments and criticisms below…

GW 23 Highest Scoring Forwards

Deeney, WAT 1 4/4/31
  • Kane comes back to haunt everyone who shifted him out to Aguero or Morata. Dude’s money, don’t know what to say other than he’s gonna keep bopping in braces, and then disappear again.
  • Jordan Ayew is the best nailed cheap striker available for fantasy squads. £5.1m and has scored a goal every other week since GW 19. Next two fixtures (H to Liverpool and Arsenal) are a bad time to expect anything, but he remains a great money saver even if he’s not scoring.
  • Newcastle striking pair of Ayoze Perez and Jay Rodriguez come through with 5 points each.  Great cheap options up top as well.
  • Andre Gray won me the 6 pack challenge with Smokey, and scored another one to rub salt in his open wounds this week.

  • Arnautovic is on a roll leading the Hammers attack. His 3 week total includes a blank from the DGW, but he also netted 15 points in GW 20. Fixtures look great, get one of him or Lanzini as your 4th MF and you should keep seeing steady returns.
  • The preseason prophecy of James Ward-Prowse scoring as a cheap MF have finally come true. His first two returns on the season come after 937 minutes total played. Congrats to the .5% of owners who have stuck with him.
  • Pogba once again coming through with a pair of assists. I may have said last week that investing in Paul was worse value than Lingard, so thanks for making me eat my words! While I don’t necessarily feel wrong about that statement, Pogba is the most important player on ManU (real football talk), so yeah he’ll always be involved. Lingard is still a great shout to score any week, but he’s also getting marked more as defenses wise up to his free scoring ways.
  • Son!!!!!!! 6 goals and 5 assists since GW 15 and he deserves to be owned in FPL at least until GW 25, potentially longer depending on his growing influence in the Spurs’ attack.
  • Last week I said: “You gotta think that more attacking will just be oozing out of SalahMané and Firmino now that Philippe has gone and left. I’m very interested in bringing in another Liverpool attacker, potentially even Emre Can.” Well shit, it was THE OX that was Liverpool MF X to score this past gameweek. Besides an absolute show by Liverpool and Man City collapsing on defense, Klopp’s boys showed they bang them in versus anyone, especially at Anfield. Yes, I think Chamberlain or Can are good picks but will continue to get rotated, so don’t rely on them as anything more than a 5th MF. Salah and Mané are just two ridiculously good players bound to keep scoring.

  • Welcome back, Antonio Valencia! Dude misses 4 games, and comes back with a goal, a clean sheet and max bonus points. This is his 2nd double digit return on the year, and also his 3rd straight with a clean sheet. Most expensive ManU DEF can bang ’em in just like Alonso, but I prefer the cheaper defenders like Smalling, Shaw, or Jones because I still don’t trust ManU to score in every match. Same goes
  • Two West Brom boys round out the top 3 scoring defenders for GW 23. Rumors currently have Evans off to Manchester City. I don’t know what it would do for his playing time, but if he’s a starter at City then yes I’m buying.
  • Van der Hoorn gets the sneaky CS of the week, as Newcastle scored 4 minutes after he was subbed off. No, don’t transfer in SWA defenders.
  • 4 players hauling in a -1 this week! Most notable would be Milner and Otamendi. Hooray for yellow cards and goal fests.

GW 23 Highest Scoring Keepers

Player, Team Saves Goals Against Bonus Points, Cards, CS  Total Score (Week/Last 3 Weeks/Season)

Butland, STK 6 3 3/8/55
Fabianski, SWA 3 1 3/8/92
  • Activate beastmode for Kasper Schmeichel. 7 saves and 11 points! I guess just start good keepers versus Chelsea? They can’t score right now, so Mathew Ryan is a guaranteed double digit return next week.
  • Top scoring GKs on the season: de Gea (121), Courtois (99), Ederson (97), Pope (95), Fabianski (92), Pickford (90), Ryan (88), Schmeichel (88)
    • If you picked one of these guys from the start, then you wouldn’t have had to worry once about GK all season. Only strategy that matters: get a top 8 to start season or during your first WC, and then forget about him.
  1. Von Hayes says:

Man I’ve had Mkitharyan, Pogba, Lukakpoo this year at different points, Rashford, Mata, Martial and more in the past and always have to unload them, not sure what it is about the evil reds but always seemed inconsistent. And I just can’t pull the trigger on bringing Lingard in, his ride will end when I do. What team are you in the Razzball league, Cafuné?

    • Cafuné

      Cafuné says:

@Von Hayes: Yeah, I feel you. I’m also going to go Lingardless….for now. He’ll still find the net, but I don’t think with as much consistency as this little run he just went on (is on?)

I’m more comfortable rostering Pogba, he’s locked to start and has hit double digits in 4 of 13 total matches played and dropped 11 assists. that’s good.

Lukaku is shit, Martial I can live with, but yeah, ManU’s attack is not consistent, just like Chelsea’s. I also consider Valencia to be as good a shout as any of their MF to get you a goal or an assist over 90 min

      my team is here:

      what bout you, fine sir?

      • Von Hayes says:

@Cafuné: yeah the one time I grabbed Pogba he promptly left on the ban, I should probably get him back. The only move I could probably do is to boot Mahrez, you recommend that swap? And I’m Lindley Park FC, in my 5 th season of pl fantasy, I think, and finally enjoying a nice campaign.

      • Von Hayes says:

@Cafuné: just noticed you’re one spot ahead of me in the razzball league, and we both put up 86 last week, good luck down the stretch! Although “the stretch” in pl just happens to be about 4 more months so hooray for us

        • Cafuné

          Cafuné says:

@Von Hayes: Awesome man! definitely down for some friendly banter moving forward as we hit “the stretch” with no end in sight!

I don’t think Pogba will be likely to burn you again with a ban, but I don’t know if getting there from Mahrez is the best way since Mahrez has looked pretty damn good for the past 10 weeks. There are still some transfer rumors around him, so his value could change dramatically if there is a swap. If the cash saved going to Pogba helps you elsewhere, do it. But looking at your team, I would just downgrade Morata to Firmino and maybe upgrade Duffy/Kenny/Hunemeier and worry about Pogba/Mahrez later.

Objectively, I prefer Leicester’s next 8 over ManU. Also, Leicester’s opponent in GW 31 is Arsenal, who are out of FA cup. So if Leicester loses in FA cup, they won’t blank. ManU plays Chelsea in GW 28, who are still alive in EPL cup (Carabao whatever)…and West Ham GW 31 (who are still in FA cup)…so two potential blanks.

          ManU Next 8 (thru GW 31): Burnley (A), Spurs (A), Huddersfield (H), Newcastle (A), Chelsea (H), Crystal Palace (A), Liverpool (H), West Ham (A)

          Leicester Next 8 (thru GW 31): Watford (H), Everton (A), Swansea (H), Man City (A), Stoke (H), Bournemouth (H), West Brom (A), Arsenal (H)

          • Von Hayes says:

@Cafuné: Thanks for the foresight, I’ve historically had a terrible time navigating the second half of seasons because I hadn’t followed the other comps as much and never played blanks and DGW’s right. Trying to be better this time around. As for my squad I forgot you can’t see the moves I already made (I sometimes get itchy and make moves right after games finish). I did drop that bum Morata in favor of Firmino and went from Ota to Alonso, I usually don’t carry the elite defensemen but he’s in great form right now and I think Ota and Shitty have peaked and are heading downward, or at least leveling out some. Thanks again!
