Our first Double Gameweek of the season promised big scoring from both Hammers and Spurs, but managers were rewarded by 3 goals each by both clubs. That’s a goal and a half a match, hardly enough to validate any big roster shakeups that occured by many managers.

Beyond the ultimate lack in offensive output, December Darling Harry Kane fell ill to sickness and played in a limited capacity as a sub., failing to score versus Hammers. For a shit ton of owners that triple captained Kane (yours truly included) and were frusted by a single digit “haul.” It sucks, but it doesn’t end your season. Guess what does make or break the second half of yourseason? Picking healthy players with good upcoming fixture stretches, while also taking into consderation the changing dynamics of starting XI’s as more players are transferred in and out throughout January. Captaincy choices remain the biggest way to increase your single season rank, but don’t let it cloud your transfer process.

  • If you triple captained Harry Kane like I did, well next year we’ll reconsider drunk, emotional triple captaincy’s in the wee hours of New Year’s Day. The triple captain chip in general tends to be underwhelming when deployed by the droves, so if you saved yours good luck finding a fixture that justifies and gives you the desired returns. They’re out there, and FPL gods willing you’ll find a nice one out there. As for GW22, all signs pointed to it being a flop: he was sicker than a dog for the “easier” of the two doubles, and realistically any London derby is a tough fixture for Spurs this campaign. Harold finished on 3 points, which is abysmal in 2 fixtures, and now with Kane’s ownership up to 43.7%, it looks like it’s time to lose him before the GW 25-27 run of ManU, Liverpool and Arsenal. It could be well argud that Kane is fixtureproof, and that removing him now would be suicide…but the amount of scoring returns coming form the midfield more than justifies an extra million or more to be shifted around. Moving to Aguero, and if not to him then it will still be more money well spent elsewhere.
  • DCL owners should be monitoring their cheap punt whenever Cenk Tosun comes aboard. If Calvert-Lewin continues to get starts on the wing, he a reasonable punt for basic attacking returns. Tosun’s pricing will be the other interesting thing to monitor – if he’s around £7.5m-£8m, Everton’s fixtures at the end of the season could lead to him becoming a valuable commodity for teams rostering expensive defenses and midfield that might be leading their frontline with the likes of Firmino.

  • I’m all in on Leicester midfielder Marc Albrighton. 23 points in the last 3 fixtures, including 3 assists in the last 4. Foxes play away to Chelsea this upcoming gameweek, but only have 3 more matches vs the big clubs that are spread out quite nicely: GW 27 – City, GW 31 – Arsenal, GW 38 – Spurs. At £5.5m, Albrighton can serve as a highly productive 5th MF if you’ve shifted your forward funds towards the MF attacking assets.
  • Pogba gets his first attacking returns since GW 15, but with Lingard playing out of this world (4 goals and 1 assist in the last 5) and £1.7m cheaper, paying for Paul means you don’t value your fake money.
  • Son’s beautiful strike verse Hammers salvaged a point for Poch and his crew, and I don’t see him leaving the squad any time soon. He has 5 goals and 4 assists since GW 15 and he deserves to be owned in FPL at least until GW 25, potentially longer depending on his growing influence in the Spurs’ attack.
  • Well, Coutinho’s gone – whaaaat??!? We had such big plans to hang out for the next couple of months, and now…he’s just…gone… :(
  • You gotta think that more attacking will just be oozing out of Salah, Mané and Firmino now that Philippe has gone and left. I’m very interested in bringing in another Liverpool attacker, potentially even Emre Can.

    nice write up!

are you ditching morata after that abysmal performance or holding for the good upcoming matchups?

    • Cafuné

      Cafuné says:
      (link)

@Chunk: definitely ditching – he clearly is not playing with loads of confidence and hasn’t scored a double digit FPL point total since GW 6 vs Stoke. Morata will likely bag some goals over these nice fixtures, but he’s never near the explosive threat that other expensive FWDs (Kane/Aguero/Firmino) are…

I’d rather have Firmino at 9.1m or try to get to Aguero at 11.7m. new everton striker Tosun is listed at 7.5m, The Toffees have just as good of fixtures and could be a great option once we see how he is playing

I personally have 2 CHE Defenders and Courtois on my side
