Oh, Week 4 you young and burdening beast.  The season has just started and we are already questioning the judgments that we made yet a month ago.  No worries though faithful followers of the Razz.  Each week is almost like a new beginning if you had a wildcard to use at your discretion every week.  The rankings of midfielders and forwards is blossoming into a conundrum right before our very eyes.  We planted it in the summer, watched the transfer window closed and now that the shop is closed this is where we are.  18 more weeks until roster shake-ups again (if any) and the inevitable new wildcard.  So if you haven’t used your first wildcard yet, bene.  You have more restraint then most of the 5 million other players of this game.  So here are the rankings for the midfielders and forwards for week 4, regardless of wildcard.  Cheers!

I was going to write the day of the transfer window, but beer and holiday weekend gets in the way of productivity.  So if you have been waiting with baited breathe for the transfer Tuesday news then, well, breath again my friends.  We are now at a what you see is what you get roster situation until the January window.  In between that is a plate full of 18 games that stretch out to the new year.  If you started out blah and haven’t wild-carded yet… what are you waiting for?  Setting up your team for the next four-five games is important and will make or break your attention span of your team from the later part of the year.  Take advantage of the next few days, build the value of your team and get that accumulated value of your team close to 101.5.  Transfer Tuesday is about fun with some views on what’s what so take what I have to say not as scripture but more as a holding your hand as we cross the FPL street.  Happy transferring!  Cheers!

The second installment of rankings is sometimes the favored.  Because who doesn’t like to score or assist to score.  In almost any format that last sentence holds sway.  But for now let’s just skip the images in your head and talk about the meat and potatoes of the FPL weekly rankings.  These fellas are more reliant on goals, assists and the BPS to drive them over the top.  So with match-ups, form and common sense as the wind to their ranking sail the list is based on just those three things.  So look at the schedule, trust the form and pray that I have some common sense when ranking these players.  Here are the Week 3 rankings for the midfielders and forwards in the FPL. Cheers!

Listen, I pay attention to the masses going crazy on the Twitter-verse.  We all do as proactive owners of an FPL franchise, but this Wildcard already stuff is ludicrous.  Not the rapper either.  There are so many factors that apply to this that it shouldn’t even be an option.  First, it is only Week 3 my friends, chill.  A minus 4 or even a minus 8 for a one game situation (which Week 3 is) is a far better alternative than using the wildcard.  The second and third reasons divulge further into it… so patience.  Second, the international break is one week away, which makes this a one week payoff.  What does it hurt to wait… nothing!  If anything, more knowledge and news will aide in your quest for a perfect line-up.  Lastly, the transfer window in real life ends when there is a break.  That is it shut off the lights, what we have is what we play with.  It brings names back into the foray like Coutinho, Hazard, Alexis and maybe some unknown.  As sexy as it sounds to start over now, because your point returns aren’t up to snuff, just don’t.  Wait it out.  We still will have 35 weeks to play, which if you play it out right, is a ton of time to achieve top 10k or beyond status. For some S’s and G’s here are some keen transfer ideas for Week 3 of the FPL.  Cheers!

As always, the second post is usually the more awaited of the week.  Why?  It’s the same reason that people love the home run, the touchdown, or the over.  It is no different when we start talking about the middies and strikers for the week.  We fall in love with the goals and the tallies that come along with them.  All just facts.  Also a fact is that like always the rankings are always based on price, match-up, form and common sense.  So if you disagree… say so.  I am here for your service in this FPL game that we all love so much.  So enjoy the rankings, long intro’s are for squares and for people who don’t really have much to say so they make it long winded.  Cheers!

It’s Tuesday.  It means knee jerk reactions and total punting for Week 2 of the FPL season.   I am truly only half-kidding, but people involved in the chase gonna chase regardless.  Especially with the first few price changes in the books already.  Everyone wants that shiny new bargain toy for a penny cheaper then they just had it.  So with the first Transfer Tuesday post of the year, Smokey is here to guide you down the trail of transfer ideas that may be a little off beat or because I am seeing something that you didn’t.  Four eyes are better than two, especially when people who are making transfers this early in the week, and making the market climb on a Tuesday.  I don’t get it, but people get nervous and make irrational decisions, messing it up for everyone else.  So while we live the rational transfer life, here are some transfer ideas for maybe a few days down the road to set yourself up for next week’s set of matches.  Cheers!

Anyone remember the days of yore when the uproar and hoot-nannying was out of control over his transfer fee.  Well if you are a footie fan the Neymar deal with PSG has put that monster under your bed to rest.  this year seemed like a perpetual record transfer fee for each team in the Premier…and likely so the market has gone past us and the money with TV and such rules the world.  Lost in all of this fuss is that Paul Pogba is a good football player, and a growing to be a better fantasy asset for the Red Devils this year.  And they Aren’t even done spending on talent to surround the superstars on their team with more superstars.  So what can Paul Pogba do for you this year in the official game that he didn’t do last year at the glorified nature of his being with all the hype and none of the fantasy booty.  His price is cheaper than last year’s end price and I am here to learn you something about him for the official game this year.  Stay tuned, your midfield will have one locked in starter for week one after the bump.  Cheers!

Wednesdays from now on are the day when we let nothing hide between friends. It is fairly simple: I will show you my team for the next three Wednesday’s leading up to the start of the season. I do expect that if you read this and that, you’ll do the exact same thing, because two heads are better than one, and 10 is even better. Get it? Cool. So this is draft number six on the year for me so far, the others were more fiddling out of boredom, but now we are starting to see news out and about pertaining to certain teams formations, transfers, and injury updates. So enjoy this early look at Smokey’s team and critique away, because I prolly deserve to be slandered for my thoughts and team selection. Cheers!

The biggest thing I always hear around the inter-webs is: will Davy Klaassen’s skill on the pitch translate to something of a fantasy commodity?  The best answer people never give is: we will see. Listen, I get that he is a well-hyped player coming over from the Eredivisie, but how will his skill be a good thing for Everton?  The Toffees have a bigger hole to fill with the departure of Romelu Lukaku, but that post will be coming in the next week or so… let’s stay with the guy who are going to be the facilitators of goals for himself and others.  Klaassen had 14 goals and 8 assists last year in 2800 minutes played in the play-making/attacking role for Ajax last year.  Now, the League is not on par defensively with what the Premier brings, but has it’s pluses and minuses to help it match-up a bit.  So we can say that Davy is going to be used in a similar fashion as he was previous and play behind the front two of Rooney/Sandro or both in some sets.  That is a good thing because I think both of those top players offer up different things that will unlock the midfield for the Dutchman.

So do you like Fantasy Sports? Do you like soccer? Have you ever made a drunken bar bet and then been asked to not only justify your unjustifiable hubris, and then asked to actually come through and perform your favorite Nicki Minaj song in public?  Well, two outta three ain’t bad. … So, if you’re still with me, let’s see how a Novice fairs playing EPL fantasy soccer this season.  The pricing value scale will be as follows:

  • Buy. Just like with every new generation of the iPhone, you’re willing to wait in line to overnight to get this.  Full price be damned, this is worth it.
  • Grab. Lightning deal online. Get it now, the price won’t get better and it’s a good investment.
  • Avoid. This is that van that pulls up next to you at the gas station and says, ”Hey, wanna buy some speakers?” The answer is always no.
